Dr. Johnson’s Story...

What would you do if you came face-to-face with Michael Myers from ‘Halloween,’ Jason Voorhees from ‘Friday the 13th,’ or Freddy Krueger from ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’? Well, that might not happen since they are just movie actors playing the role of monsters. Dr. Johnson believed monsters only existed on television. Until June 9, 2022 in New York City, when she was attacked by a real-life monster. She suffered a near-fatal strangulation at the hands of her intimate partner, an actor from New York. That night, she discovered that monsters exist and are not always on television. The attack landed her in the hospital for seven days. Her intimate partner was arrested and pleaded guilty to the charges.

This harrowing experience led to the founding of Queens United Against Domestic Violence.

Queens United Against Domestic Violence is facilitated by a team of Beauty Pageant queens who are survivors and advocates of domestic violence.

The Queens use their voices to bring awareness to the crime of domestic violence in order to stop the cycle of abusive behaviors.

  • The team provides peer-to-peer support to survivors.
  • The team aims to motivate and empower survivors toward a life of productivity and well-being, free from domestic violence.
  • The team hosts Domestic Violence Variety Show Events to raise awareness of intimate partner violence.
